Life can be so very strange! Saturday we learned good friends of ours had lost thier mother/mother-in-law. Very suddenly! Then the newest addition to our very larger immediate family was born on Monday--beautiful little girl! This up and down with births and death just reminds me how quickly life goes and how very much we are a "circle" of life.

As we visited our newest family member, the adults were all "gaga" if you will about the sweet, tiny, innocent little lady who had just come into the world. Everyone oohing and aahing and wanting to hold this precious little life! Totall normal for us adults, but my children, while happy their cousin was here, just weren't really into the whole "new baby" thing! I could tell that my youngest was beginning to feel the effects of no longer being the youngest in the family.

As we drove it occurred to me that although I love the baby stage, the newborn smell--I was in fact grateful to have had that stage three times, but now I was loving the stage my children were in. I turned around and told my children how much I loved the stage that they were in where we could communicate, they were more independent and were exploring the world around them. My youngest seems to enjoy hearing this most of all!

That night as I talked with each one before bed, my youngest and I talked about all the growth she has had and how much she is learning now that she is in kindergarten. She and I talked about how awesome it that she will be the older one that will be able to play with her new cousin and teach her all about itty bitty baby and barbies!

My middle child, my "old soul" child who has so much insight and is wise beyong her years, said to me "mommy, I wish we could stay this age forever, you at 37 and me at 7 years old. We won't grow and will be together for always." I looked at her with her beautiful big eyes, and said "I know, but we can't, all we can do is enjoy our time and our ages right now, and look forward to all that we have ahead of us. She shook her head and sweetly hugged me, telling me she loves me. Violet amazes me, her kindness, her loving nature, and her intuitiveness as she seems to know that time is fleeting and we are all born, we grow, we age, we live, and we die....

My oldest of course is 10 and could care less at this moment about another girl cousin and how that plays into his life--is thinks its great, but hey we got our ipod touch and more on our mind, like what book to read next for his golden sowers, and who he will hang out with after school the next day!

As for me, I am deeply touched my my middle childs words. I am constantly reminded how very quickly it all comes and goes, faster and faster as we get older. Like the blowing of the wind, the seasons changing, our memories growing, each event in our lives shaping who we are....remembering as a young child how we wanted to be bigger, older, more free....can't wait to be 5, to be 10, to be 16, to be 21.....and then you are, and by the time you are in your thirties you realize why when you were younger so many people would say "what I wouldn't give to be 5 or 16 or 21 again"...

Time--we wish it away, and we wish for more of it...the circle of life as it comes and goes. Hoping we can become the people we want to be; Hoping we will shape our childrens lives to be better than our own; Hoping we make a difference; Hoping in the end to be remembered...

Tonight we say goodbye to someone we knew, we will watch as our friends mourn the loss of a mother/mother-in-law. We will rejoice in the pictures of our new niece and her "firsts" to come. The Circle of life continuing on its course, and how quickly it makes its rounds....

Time for Myself????HMMM..

AH--Monday after a wonderfully BUSY weekend! Just waking up was hard enough for me, but dragging three kids out of bed, on a cloudy, cool, morning to go to school, well that taks patience and bribery!

I realized today that I have pretty much NO TIME just for me, not before school, not after school, not in the bathroom, not after dinner, not even after my wonderful children have drifted off to school. Not that I am complaining, because I am NOT!

This morning after my kiddos got off to school I sat in the front room rading my book, waiting for my 2 year old who I watch everyday--the text came in "keeping him with me today, see you tomorrow". HUH, I have the entire day to myself....hmm, what to do....

I leisurely had my 2 cups of coffee, actually finished my book--awesome! Then what....then what? Paid monthly bills, had a fiber one bar...the house was already cleaned after having had my youngest's birthday party the day before. So what did I do...on a day I have to myself...

I decided to take on my bedroom closets--purging if you will the numerous articles of clothing I no longer wear, or at can fit into....well, just getting rid of things! I spent the next 4 hours working my closets! Yes! This is how i treat myself to a day off...what is wrong with this picture?

And now as I type this I realize that while I did accomplish some great deep cleaning, I also missed an opportunity to savor a full day of nothing....and in just 30 more minutes I will have a housefull of children wanting snacks, teasing one another about any and everything, no privacy to even go to the bathroom without someone banging or screaming on the other side of the door!

Even as I know I don't have much time to myself on any given day; and that on vacation I even tell my husband that when the bathroom door is shut, don't bother talking to me about anything, give me the privacy....after an hour, I am already bored, wondering what to do, waiting with anticipation for the house to be filled with noisy demanding children who hold my entire heart in their hands....

Yep--I don't believe my life could get any better!!!

Another Year...Where does Time Go?

Most people are aware that as we age, the time as we know it seems to slip away faster and faster. As our lives become filled with jobs, bills, pets, and children what we thought was just yesterday we realize was more like 6 years ago! Today my youngest turned 6, and as I usually do, I began remembering her birth, what transpired, her first bath, etc. And then I realized, its been 6 years! SIX!! Where did time go? Not only that, but my oldest is now 10 years old and in fifth grade! My middle child is in 2nd grade...its totally freaking me out!

You look in the mirror, but your reflection hasn't really changed, has it? Other than the fine lines, a few more "laugh" lines, or stress lines....huh, well still, I don't think I look that much older, or do I? Shake that thought off!

Inside I still feel like my twenty year old self, the one before the kids, before the responsibility! Except maybe smarter, maybe calmer. If only I knew then what I know now....LOL, yes that's another saying you hear alot!

I tell my father that he was right, life does speed up as we get older, and suddenly we are in our 30's married, and raising a family of our own. In the blink of an eye our baby goes from birth to kindergarten, and we wonder how is that possible! I get it now, and wish somedays that the time would slow upa nd allow me to savor the moments longer--the ones of holding my children, talking to them before bed, holding my husbands hand just a few moments more....

Ah but the show continues, there is no rewind, only the memories we carry with us--still its something to pause and relish the moments we have....

Still Layering with Effects

The outcome for my grandmother has become painfully clear. Although she is completely aware the majority of the time, she is also affected with low hemoglobin and after a certain point she is glossy eyed, and seems to drift in and out. The doctors have discussed the painful reality-she is not going to recover. She is never come off the trach/vent. Grandma has decided she wants to go home, consistently asking each of us to take her home now! She understand what this means, and also is adamant that she does not want to be in a nursing home. Among her other health problems lies the possibility of internal bleeded, or just that her bone marrow just isn't working properly-leading to anemia and the need for nearly a weekly transfusion. Once she goes home, the reality will be come clearer as the transfusions will no longer be available and hospice is being looked into. Its one thing to see the writing on the wall, quite another when the words are said outloud. I know i speak for everyone in the family when I say none of us are ready for any of this, the losing of a loved one is never an easy thing. Selfishly I want her to stay here, stay in a nursing home, whatever it takes....but I know she is trapped and this is not what she wants. As I contemplate our mortality, another friend is again battling her cancer, it has gone from lung to lung, lung to brain, and now into spine. I take all of this in, wondering why it has to be this way, knowing full well death is a part of living--but no one ever tells you just how hard death is FOR the living!

The Roller Coaster

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/S0tdAfRn7qI/AAAAAAAAALo/PlkaDlLTOR8/s200/2-23-2009+007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5425532439074696866" />
I love that phrase "Life is like a rollercoaster, enjoy the ride". Recently I have lost a good friend, and now my grandmother is in the hospital ICU. Grandma cannot breath on her own, but her other vitals are pretty good, she is 87 years old with many issues, but this is the biggest right now. Its been a few weeks, she has been ICU, then regular room, now back in the ICU for the past 12 days. Seems like so much longer. But I have heard that phrase in different ways since being at the hospital.

I've heard emotional rollercoaster, ups and downs, this rollercoaster ride, etc. So as I was sitting there, holding my grandmothers hand, watching the different monitors, it occurred to me that the heart rate monitor was exactly that--up and down, rollercoaster. You see the little heart beating, the breaths per minute--hoping things stay calm, within range, good pace--then the sudden spike or drop.

We tend not to see our own life rollercoaster as it is happening but become acutely aware of others lives. Especially while watching the monitors. Knowing how fragile it all is, how you never know when the ride is going to end. I watched the monitors yesterday, realizing how much I don't want her ride to end, how much I want her next step to work, want to hear her voice, want a big hug and to hear about all her medications over and over!

The doctors coming in, saying one thing, speaking of quality of life, making her comfortable, then the next day about recovery. Something I realize so many of us go through--watching other families in ICU, all struggling the same way. All of us with one thing in common--not wanting our loved ones to suffer, but not wanting them to leave us either, each being a little selfish.

Oh For Goodness Sakes....

Well, I'm sure we are all aware of the FACEBOOK networking website...If not then you are missing out! FB is great as far as networking, catching up with old friends, keeping in touch with family, etc. However, one thing I have noticed is that although many users realize this, if you post something to your wall, AND have allowed everyone to see it (this is in your settings) then its public knowledge AND others can and often will respond to the posting. Apparently there is some issue with "trolling" peoples pages and perhaps reading things they may otherwise want kept private....for those persons offended by comments on their walls and what is being said, please don't post them out there for everyone to view. If you want things private the internet probably isn't for YOU. I found this very entertaining yesterday when reading a very simple posting by a friend who was complaining that there are many of us who are not educated in the ways of the Mormon beliefs. When asked to elaborate his wife stated that his mother was one of the people with misconceptions--leading his response to be "hence the education" comment. Now, his mother was hurt by this, and when confronted about his statement, he told everyone "not to troll his posts and mind their business". This of course is what prompted this discussion. Not only is it amusing, but if you are publicly posting things, how is it that someone is trolling a post or suppose to mind their business, you just posted it on the WALL for all in your network of friends/family/etc to view, hence making it their business.

The moral of this post--private is private; but if you post it publicly--you just lost your privacy!!! Apparently showers and the cold air are set to stay around until at least friday--break on saturday--and return by Monday. And so the fall air continues to come in, seemingly early this year. It makes me wary about what this Halloween night will bring, at least weather wise. My children are ready to go--My oldest is going to be Captain Rex, Clone trooper from the cartoon networks CLONE WARS. Seems you are never to young or to old to appreciate Star Wars. My middle one is going to be a cheetah--yet again! Hers is literally the easiest costume to make--Black shirt, Black pants (in my case we got some with sparkles, cheetahs like the bling--then I simply put Cheetah fleece on the cuffs, necklind, and ankles. Add the ears and tail and draw the nose and whiskers! DONE--AND since I tack the fleece on, take it off and there are the sparly pants and black shirt for the fall and winter! My youngest is my most stubborn--and this year creative....She has decided to truly mix and match costumes--she is a bit of Hannah Montana (gotta have the guitar and mircophone), a Wizards of Waverly Place, and a fairy. It was quite the ordeal, but we got it settled!! Now--I have to figure out what my husband and I are going to be--nothing like leaving it to the last minute!

Back to this wonderfully dreary day--the leaves are falling, the rain is dropping, the wind is blowing. I have spent my day with my niece and youngest daughter listening to their games while working on another baby blanket. I have come to the conclusion that all my ideas are just too much for me to bring to fuition. I draw and contemplate, sew and crochet, yet somehow I fall flat when actually getting it all out there. I have numerous supplies, all for an idea here of there that I have come up with--perhaps I have a bit of ADHD, who knows. I know that once I find that niche, it will all become clear.

As I end my afternoon, I don my newest crochet wool socks (love these) and prepare to brave the cool evening to visit with relatives from San Antonio. Four children will be intow--my three and my niece. We will brave the weather, eat with the family, and I will return alone with my children to begin the nightly bedtime routine, which will inevitably include teasing, bickering, and crying. I will finally get them all to sleep and relish each moment I spend with them telling them goodnight. All and All this will have been a truly wonderful day, rain or shine---as every day is meant to be!

PLUGGING PVIcreations Etsy Shop

Its time to throw in a little plug for my own little shopping boutique on the web--PVIcreations. I have had the idea in my head for a while now but just never saw it through to completion. So, this weekend, I worked away and after 3 days--here she is, my Darling FlowerBaby. She is 8 1/2 inches tall, made of 100% Cotton yarn and filled with polyfil and a little bell that provides a noise when shaken. She is of my own design, and has already made an impression on both my little girls. Who knows maybe I'll make her a little friend. For now I am off to making another hat--<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/StyuxpFZWUI/AAAAAAAAAK4/DunqqECzNJ0/s200/10-18-2009+007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394378621548321090" />

Where or Where to Find Handmade

Oh, the dilemma--where to find and sell handmade items on the internet. We are bombarded with so much anymore that its hard to make the right choice, the least expensive and more bang for your buck choice. Well, I have of course been searching and searching. I have found a few spots to sell and buy wonderfully handmade craft items from crochet (which I DO) to jewelry, to art creations, handmade ties, vintage items and more. Yes, there is always EBAY, but in my crochet world, you tend to get much less for your item than if you were selling on a truly handmade site. Yes, you can buy a baby blanket at Target for $15.00--wonderful little blanket, BUT this is something that is mass produced--purchasing a baby blanket that has been hand crocheted is much more personable, very special, and adds that sentimental touch that so comes with newborns and bringing them home to start their adventure.

With that in mind--I have a few sites to look at: First is WinkElf--Wonderful place to buy and sell items all the time, you can simply log on and shop, paying through paypal, a safer way to purchase items....WINKELF check it out and find something truly amazing!

Next is Shop Handmade, another perfect place for finding handmade items for gifts or for yourself. A wonderful place to sell your handmade crafts too--just stop in, its very easy to sign up and sell and/or buy.

And then of course there is Etsy. This has an amazing selection of items from vintage buys to supplies and gift ideas. Again very easy to shop and buy, you simply register for free for an account and make your purchases. As a buyer you can also log into the forums pages and see what sellers are talking about, even join into the conversations.

Each of these marketplaces of course are perfect for finding handmade items, but I am still on the prowl for additonal handmade marketplaces to purchase and sell items--a place that embraces our flaws and our talents, and reminds us that while mass productions are convenient and usually less expensive--you cannot deny the sentiment and heart put into a handmade item. Something truly captivating of those unique, one of a kind, handmade pieces.

What a Little Ribbon can DO!!!

So, here was my dilemma--redoing the bathroom on the main floor. The wall is white, boarder and some shells--it needs some PUNCH! <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/SlJNjAjjn6I/AAAAAAAAAKQ/XyStYvfadxE/s200/july+2009+150.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355428170736836514" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/SlT1a3zFB4I/AAAAAAAAAKg/cq3psTHoZLI/s200/july+2009+149.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356175698853955458" />

So, its just before the 4th of July, which we always host and I am searching for an easy dress-me-up for my mirror. Not that there is truly any rush, but I was hoping to finish this piece and its been gnawing at me for nearly a year. I decided to use RIBBON to make the border around the mirror. I hit Walmart, found some ribbon that not only matched the boarder and rug coloring, but also the curtain partition. I cut the pieces to fit and use a little tacky glue to stick it right on the mirror. Now I needed something in the corners just to cover the seams from the ribbon. WHALA--a few buttons with the appropriate colors and its DONE. I have a frame around the mirror that not only finishes the mirror, but its unique and easily removed when I want a change.

Great Supplement?

So many of us use supplements for our health. From calcium for our bones, to vitamin C to aid in our immunce system. I am a firm believer in supplementation in the form of vitamins and minerals. Some herbal remedies of course are helpful. In my case, since my car accident in 2007, I have had sleep problems, and began using melatonin to help me fall asleep and sleep more deeply through the night. Melatonin is much better as it is a natural remedy versus ambien, a chemical produced sleep aid.

These are not the supplements I wanted to mention today though. About a month ago I was getting my hair cut and colored, when my stylist mentioned that recently she started using the an HGH supplement. There are many studies regarding HGH supplementation from shots to oral sprays. HGH used to be only used in the injection form and generally used to increase the growth in children. Studies have now shown that HGH is also great for anti-aging, weightloss, sleep disorders, etc.

I decided to try the HGH spray to see if it indeed did help with weightloss. And truly I think that it does. I have lost 12 pounds in the past month. The HGH spray gives you a boost of energy, you sleep better at night, and I have even noticed a change in the way my skin and hair look. Because of the incease in energy I am doing more and eating less. I have no hunger pains, and have more energy throughout the day. The most dramatic change is how my body has changed. I can see that there is more definition in my stomach area.

I chose to test out the LIDDELL VITAL HGH spray. I use the spray 3 times a day. The small bottle is for a 30-day supply. The cost is about $40.00 and can be purchased either on-line or at most nutrition stores.

Because I am always skeptical of things I wanted to try it for myself and determine if it was truly worth the price. I am amazed at the results, and am planning on purchasing another bottle. I feel better overall, and just had to share this find.

What is Beautiful?

So, I'm driving home last night listening to talk radio (yes I love me the talk radio) and I hear a commercial for yet another miracle cream, promising you will look 10 years younger...I do not recall the name, but I am sure to hear it again on the radio this evening. What intrigued me the most about this ad was not the "miracle anti-aging cream"-NO, what intrigued me was the fact that NOT one time on the commercial was there an actual womans voice. That's right, instead it was testomonials from MEN. These gentlemen were discussing their girlfriends and wives skin, and how they loved them before, but NOW, well now they just look SOOO YOUNG.

Wow, the women look YOUNG, by at least 10 years. What are these ads reall saying to women, especially those of us who are in our 30's, 40's, 50's....lets just perpetuate the cycle shall we! Women spend thousands of dollars every year trying to fix, tuck, change, and turn back the clock with every aspect of their body. We are told to be natural and ourselves and at the same time shown images of pencil thin actresses and models and said this is beautiful, but curvy, sensual, mature, stong women aren't the theme for this year!

Girls as young as 7 years old are questioning their bodies...this is a time when they should be playing, enjoying their childhood, not worrying if they have a belly or not. My 5 year old was shy about wearing a tankini cuz it showed her belly. She has since got over that, but didn't want to show her belly cuz it was bigger than her sisters (who is a rail). Our children, particularly our daughters, are becoming so body conscious its affecting how they see themselves.

Not that any of this is new, but as we are bombarded with more products promising beauty in a bottle, you have to question what is beautiful? What is beauty? Is it the swimsuit model on the cover of a magazine or the warmth of your grandmothers eyes? Is it the woman with botox or the laugh lines on our faces from smiling at our children? Does beauty mean thin and young? When I hear an ad stating that from the mans perspective they love thier wives or girlfriends more now that they look so YOUNG, it makes my teeth cringe.

My stretchmarks and c-section scar are prescious to me. Would I love a tummy tuck to get rid of the dreaded "hang-over" of cut skin, absolutely, but the scars themselves are beautiful to me....they tell a story of the three children I was blessed to have. My laugh lines are beautiful, they remind me every day of the joy in my life. Each piece of our selves is in our body and the skin with which we are made. Our scars from childhood tell a story.

No magic pill is going to make you beautiful no matter how you equate beauty. To say a man finds a woman more beautiful because she looks so young means that man simply has not found the true beauty within that woman.

Amazingly women don't seem to mind the lines on a mans face, the sagging belly, man-boobs, or love handles on a mans body. Men become more distinguished, more handsome over time.

Summer is set to begin!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/ShLDpIeQItI/AAAAAAAAAJw/_mgh0kCSipM/s200/camping2007+095.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5337543619803882194" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/ShLDaTjSYQI/AAAAAAAAAJo/jNeC-yWa8eg/s200/camping+and+more+8-2008+071.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5337543365079752962" />
Its nearly summer, school is almost out, and the children will all be home....as much as I love having my kids together, we are already beginning the constant bickering and squabbling. Hopefully we can stick to our guns and manage to make a daytrip once a week. We are making up a calendar of events so we can explore different areas in close proximity to home. With the economy the way it is, and the cost of taking a family of 5 on vacation, even a driving trip to Colorado is expensive. So this summer we are making two trips, one to Platte River State park--we have done this the past 2 years and its wonderful! Close to home, beatiful scenery, and best of all its a chance to disconnect from the cell phones, television, and video games. We all spend time together, swimming, fishing, exploring and cooking over an open fire. At the end of the day you are tired and ready to sleep (after a good shower and a book).

Our next trip will be to the Iowa State Fair. A 3 hour drive, but for two days we will be enjoying lots of attractions, family time and staying at the Holiday Inn--kids eat free! With a family of 5, anytime you can save a dime its worth it. I will post some pics in August after this trip. This will be our first time there, so we are looking forward!

Other day trips planned for this summer include the Henry Doorly Zoo; The WWII museum; Schramm Park; General Crooks Museum; Fishing around town and further out; Zorinsky Lake...and coming up with more ideas :)

Low Carb Savy!

Obviously eating low carb foods can become tiresome. Focusing on cheese, raw and cooked vegetables, salad, more salad, fish. The idea of no pasta, no bread, no PIZZA....it can be somewhat unsettling. While I am a proponent of making changes to your diet and eating more healthy, unprocessed food (like carrots, celery, broccoli, the basic relish tray from the market), I am truly a dessert Fan! From cheesecake, to a Lithuanian Torte, Ice cream to Chocolate cake, desserts are just plain wonderful!

I must admit, I am not going strictly low carb, I am having lavosh, tortillas (the low carb ones), tons of vegetables, and if it comes to me wanting a pizza, then it will definitely be happening. However, there is a website that numerous recipes for low-carb eating, and some of the recipes are very tasty!

The website is called Linda's Low Carb Menus. This is a website that a woman put together chronicling her story and how she lost the weight. But what she has here is a major list of recipes, from desserts to main dishes, that are low carb. You can choose from a variety of foods, mix and match, add your own ideas, and just plain eat well!

My favorite recipe to date is the one for Cheesecake Squares. This is a basic recipe and doesn't take much to prepare. The only thing that I altered this time around was that I added the 1/2 cup sugar-free Vanilla Syrup (the recipe calls for davinci, but I used the Target brand. You can find this in the coffee isle at most stores). Then I added 1/4 cup Sugar-free Caramel Syrup. This added a wonderful sweet taste to the Cheesecake Squares. The texture of the Squares is much like that of real cheesecake. Only, theres no crust and just 2-3 gms of carbs per serving. Also, if you want more cream cheese, I usually use the full 16oz instead of just 12oz.

Another great website to keep on your list is that of Dotti's Weight loss Zone. This website detail what to eat with regard to a low carb diet as well as Weight Watchers. Also, there is a list of restaurants and what to order to keep your carbs down or your weight watcher points in check. There are over 500 restaurants listed with numerous menu choices to help keep your diet working for you without feeling deprived.

Of course you also have to throw in the usual--'exercise is key' point. So, I have increase my walking, decreased the carbs (eating some pizza over the weekend and absolutely splurging on the holiday). And so, the journey continues.....

The weightloss Journey Begins

UGH--its SPRING! But I am grateful that here in Nebraska our weather is simply all over the board and big sweatshirts and sweaters are still weather appropriate. My body is not ready for the clothing make-over from winter to spring to summer! As I wrote in my blog earlier regarding LYRICA, my weight loss has not only stalled, I enjoyed a nice big 15 pound increase. I have decided to start taking charge of my body and my body image and drop the weight and then some! I read that women tend to lose weight much slower and much harder than men. Case in point: My husband dropped 15 pounds and shed extra inches just by using the total gym, ab lounger, and switching to lite beer. Apparently those pounds came to visit my thighs and set up house!

I have utilized different diets throughout the years. Being 34 years old, having fertility issues, and giving birth to 3 children (2 by c-section) you can only imagine how nice that weight ball keeps bouncing up and down. The first diet diet I ever used was the Atkins diet. Most everyone knows that the Atkins diet is low carb high protein diet. Strict in the beginning but well worth it for the results. Before becoming pregnant I did a great amount of research regarding fertility and PCOS. This was before PCOS was as well diagnosed as now, and Atkins was still relatively new.

When I began the Atkins diet it was definitely hard. Giving up the pasta and potatoes I love was difficult, but in just 2 weeks I had lost 18 pounds and my PCOS was coming into control. I am one that can KEEP the weight OFF, so when the critics of this diet say that "you just gain it all back" this is untrue! The diet simply teaches you to add in the carbs, make better choices, and maintain your weight.

After my son was born, I opted to do a lighter version on the Atkins diet, still losing the weight and feeling better overall. However, after my daughter it was nearly impossible to get back into the Atkins diet, and of course I went ahead and got pregnant again with my 3rd (only 8 months later) so never did lose all that baby weight. After my 3rd child, I tried to stay on the Atkins diet. I lost 12 pounds, and then gorged on my carbs...gaining 5 pounds back.

I opted into the weight watchers program. This was and is a great diet. For me though, I NEED that mega weight loss beginning, it keeps me motivated. I did lose about 8 pounds, but once I started on the Lyrica and Amrix, nothing could stop the bloating and weight gain. I gave up on the Weight Watcher program, no sense in wasting money. My mother however, swears by Weight Watchers, she has also done numerous diets, but Weight Watchers has worked for her and she looks and feels amazing!

SO,yesterday I decided to go back to Atkins! Strict! My goal is simply to lose 20 pounds. This should be possible! I am going to invest in a treadmill, I have my total gym and ab lounger. This is the goal! I want to be comfortable in my own skin! I know the Atkins works for me! I have been scaling back the medications which should help! Any and all physical activity and better diet should enhance the weight loss!

I have also warned my husband to keep his lost pounds contained, I am not the lost and found! I took my two daughters, ages 3 and 4, to see the Dora Live production. The show was filled with adventures, animals, characters from the animated show, and a special appearance from Dora's cousin Diego. Prior to the start of the show and during intermission, you could purchase Dora Live toys and accessories as well as have your picture taken. Each child was given a Star to hold during the show and participate when asked.

The actors portaying the characters were energetic as well as having beautiful vocals. Each character did a wonderul job of including the audience in the adventure, even Swiper made an appearance and it took the entire audience to say "Swiper, NO Swiping!"

My girls enjoyed the show immensely. Smiles, smiles, and more smiles as we left the show. My children were disappointed that mommy wouldn't purchase the toys or accessories at the production, however the mark-ups were a bit high for toys you could get at retail stores for a fraction of the cost.

Tickets were reasonable, and we sat higher up so we could all see the production without having to stand up. Our costs with taxes came to just over $100 for the three of us, and worth every penny. Not only are you enjoying a live performance with your children, but it also opens them up to the arts at an early age. Something I believe our society has let dwindle and be replaced by xbox and ninetendo DS.

I intend to continue sharing my love of Opera and Live shows with my children. I hope that the will discover the joys of the arts and keep some of that magic with them as they grow into adulthood.

Lyrica...The JOURNEY

I have been meaning to write about Lyrica for quite sometime now. Seeing a commercial for the drug this morning served as my reminder. Some of the information I have reviewed from its possible side effects to its help for those suffering from chronic pain leaves a great deal open to interpretation. I have been taking Lyrica for the past 5 months for my chronic pain after my whiplash injury from 2007. For many, especially those with fibromyalgia, Lyrica has been a miracle drug. I have found great relief from my neck and shoulder pain in Lyrica. Although it is not a cure, the masking of symptoms provided by lyrica allows you to perform many of your usual tasks with out pain altogether of with less pain.

The first time I took Lyrica in November, it was amazing. I hadn't slept a full night in more than a year; I hadn't fallen asleep before 2am in over a year; and I hadn't risen in the morning without excruciating pain. This was the most amazing drug I had ever taken! My mood was uplifted (obviously pain and lack of sleep weigh on you as a person), my children noticed mommy was happy, and my overall outlook had been changed from pain to possibility.

However, I did suffer a few side effects early on, such as the inability to function mentally. I was in a fog on one pill, but with 2 pills at a time I could not function, even to stand or have a conversation. After discussing this side effect with my Dr., I started taking only on in the morning and slowly increased my evening medications to 3-75mg Lyrica tablets. This helped me to sleep better without decreasing my mental state during the day.

All has been well since starting Lyrica in November. I have a few other medications that I take including Amrix--a time realeased muscle relaxer, melatonin, Ambien (not for a few months) as needed. I also had a cortisone shot in my neck in January. Since the cortisone shot, my pain has subsided greatly, enough to begin tapering off my Lyrica dosage.

Here is where things become sticky. First, Lyrica does cause weight gain. The big problem with this side effect is that you literally do not notice it right away, it just sneaks up on you. I was already having trouble losing weight, but to take medications that increase the scales was certainly not helping the situation. To say that you are bloated is an understatement! You might as well say you turn into a human flotation device! Okay, I thought to myself, I can live with some extra weight if it means no pain. But still, I should taper off medication if I can as I do not want to be dependent if its not necessary!

Here begins the withdraw! What you are not told is that Lyrica is a narcotic and that as with any drug you are going to go through withdraws. I started by tapering off the daytime pill--this was easy as my pain levels were already not as bad during the day. Once I began tapering off the evening pills the withdraw symptoms started. I have the shakes, nausea, irritability, itching. The only upside is that the puffiness seems to have dissipated. In a matter of 5 days I dropped 5 pounds! Great, except now I have the other pieces to deal with. I have been tapering off Lyrica since February. This is a process and should not be done cold turkey.

Currently I have started taking my Lyrica, one pill a bedtime, every other day. My Withdraw symptoms are still strong and I can definitely tell the day that I have the Lyrica and the day I do not. My pain level isn't significantly terrible. Yes, my shoulder and neck still hurt, however, when I stretch and do my physical therapy exercises to strengthen the muscles, I do alleviate the pain. Ibuprofen is a staple for me, I always have it with me just in case, and I ususally take 300mg a day.

My overall opinion of Lyrica is that it really does work, and it does alleviate the pain. However, I feel that physicians should do a better job relating all the side effects as well as what happens when you come off the drug. I was not prepared for the withdraw symptoms. I currently take an anti-depressant, and with the withdraws from Lyrica I definitely had an increase in feelings of depression and sadness. I can only imagine what it would have been like without my Lexapro.

Lyrica should definitely be considered for treatment of chronic pain, however, every patient should take it upon themselves to review all the information and see what others have endured on the drug. I continue to taper off this narcotic, and hopefully will not have to take it again. If I should need a pain management drug, I will be asking my doctor about alternatives to Lyrica.

HANDMADE..The Forgotten Way!

It used to be that people would make their own clothing, blankets, jewelry, any items we needed to survive. There were gardens and looms, wood for furniture and to burn in the stove. Now, the majority of our things are purchased in stores, from Target, Walmart, furniture stores, and grocery stores. The art of handmade has gone to mass production. As is the way society has grown and changed through the years.

However, you can find many sites on-line and boutiques in towns where you may purchase items that are not only unique but also handmade. One such place on-line is Etsy, "Your place to buy and sell all things handmade". This is an amazing site, one where you will find many treasures, from jewelry to bags, toys to clothes, ties, and afghans.

Handmade is always special. Whether as a gift or a perfect addition to your own home, handmade items add something unique. Often times people who are used to mass production are weary to spend a little more on a handmade item. Forgetting that things that are handmade are full of time and love that someone has put into each piece. Mass productions are cheaper to purchase, YES, but missing that special touch.

Designs By Sheila, found on Etsy, is one shop that you will find unique jewelry for everyone. I purchased a beautiful guitar pic peace sign earrings and necklace set for my niece this past Christmas. The gift itself was a huge hit, as well as being a unique piece of jewelry. I absolutely love the design and style brought through this store. Most recently I fell in love with these brown guitar music note earrings, a new favorite item of mine.

DVRdown, another wonderful etsy shop, has many amazing jewelry pieces. I personally love her Hello Kitty jewelry. This Artis has cellphone charms, magnets, and more. A wonderful site to visit.

One of my most favorite shops is Grandpa's Woodshop. Handmade wooden puzzles and games for children. This site is definitely worth checking into. There are wooden puzzles of ducks, navy airplanes, firetrucks, bunnies, and whales. The craftsmanship is wonderful and the shop itself was recently featured in Cookie Magazine.

Of course I have MANY favorite shops. I will put in a little plug for my own shop PVIcreations. I started my shop as many other etsians have done, simply as a side thing, to showcase and sell my crocheted items. Its a pastime that I truly enjoy and making things for my family and friends as well as for others is a joy in and of itself.

Here is a small sample of my other favorites:

Chickabiddybaby-this is a beautiful site, run by one of my nearest and dearest friends, shoot, she's family! If you are looking for a cute, vintage inspired gift, this is most definitely the place for you!

Woolen Teddies-a great store for some cute teddy bears, very cute! Children love teddy bears!

Opal Essence, SweetHeartSinner Creations,PinkPoochDesigns, and so many many more!

Esty truly is a handmade experience. We are all searching for those unique and special gifts or items for our homes. Visit Etsy, make every occasion something special!

When You Just NEED a Lawyer

For me, it was after a personal injury accident in 2007. That's right, 2007, and its been nearly 2 years and I am still paying for someone Else's carelessness. The short version is that I was on my way to the store with my oldest child. Driving my Mercury Villager Minivan, with my son in the far back. Sitting in the merge lane at a complete stop, I was hit from behind two time by the same car. The man had had a diabetic episode, blacked out at the wheel, accelerated down the hill, popped the median and slammed into my van, bending the frame, and causing me a severe case of whiplash with two herniated discs in my neck. Luckily my son was alright, and we were both relieved that the man who hit us was alright. A shot of glucose and he was on his way. I was left feeling helpless, injured, and confused as to my rights.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/Sb_B6cDS79I/AAAAAAAAAJI/gIjKiKIoqMc/s200/003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314179295027064786" />

Here is just one instance when you simply need a lawyer. A personal injury lawyer to ensure your interests are protected. In the New Jersey area, the Legal Systems Network-New Jersy Area is a place you can find the appropriate lawyer to fit your particular needs. From Civil to Criminal cases, it is important to utilize a lawyer and not take matters into your own hands. Not only does a lawyer protect your interests, but also alleviates some of the pressure of medical bills, liability, claim information and much more.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/Sb_CMhN1xnI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/vKbt4Y1bH4U/s200/015.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314179605651113586" />

Speaking from experience, insurance adjusters will try to intimidate you into settling the claim for much less than its worth. I was fortunate to find a lawyer in my area that specializes in personal injury. However, if I had access to a network of lawyers such that are in the Legal Service Network website, my problems associated with finding the right lawyer would have disappeared. I would have had access immediately to the information I needed.

The Legal System Network-New Jersey Area is easy to navigate and find the particular area of expertise you require. Choose from personal injury to medical malpractice, divorce to estate planning, you are sure to find the information you seek. Submit your information and the attorney and client match making system will go to work for you. All your information is completely confidential. Everyday to a child is an adventure, literally. Often times their adventure turns into our adventure as well. For instance, my son is 7 years old and in the 2nd grade. Every day he comes home with a new fact or game or idea. Recently I learned that when my parents "things have changed since I was a kid" is completely true. My son explained to me that Pluto was no longer considered a planet, instead it was a dwarf. I thought he was kidding, but no, its true. I learned that I am not the only one completely in the dark on this when I told my nurse this very fact, she was shocked. Being a boy, my son as also taught me that men are seriously children at heart. My son and husband have smelly "fart" contests, wrestling matches, wet willies and wedgies. Its a constant, from the moment my husband comes home until the children go to sleep.

My girls and niece are 2, 3, and 4 years old. My 4 year old is my drama queen. Recently she told me she "had never been so angry in my entire life" with regard to a movie, I have no idea why, but this was her mood at that very moment. She is also a con, summing up a person and using the thing that would most get an "awe she is so sweet" response. Also, my young girls are brutally honest! They will tell you quite plainly that you have a big butt, your breath smells like poo, and that your clothes do not work for you. I am not one to quash their opinions or imagination, but I try to remind them to be polite as much as possible.

Also, I have learned that when the house is quiet it means that some or all of the children are up to something.

Example One: We live in a true two story home. My son talked my 4years old into climbing up the stairs on the outside of the rail, climbing out onto the landing at the top (still on the outside of the rail). He then proceeded to put some throw pillows on the tile floor below and beg my daughter to jump. Luckily she did not do this and I caught them before anyone could get hurt.

Example 2: When my son was younger, he was playing quietly around the corner from me. When he came to tell me that he had made a train track, I obviously thought it was with is train set. Imagine my surprise when I found out the train tracks were made with an ENTIRE roll of toilet paper up and down the hallway and stairs. Again, quiet means something is UP!

My girls played quietly in the toy room (so I thought) when I came to check on them, I found them instead in the bathroom with my lipstick. They had put it on all by themselves-not just on their lips but all around their mouths. I had to take a picture!<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/SbksEjFJjFI/AAAAAAAAAJA/U398qLWxFsM/s200/jan+24+2008+127.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312325692108147794" />
I took the picture then proceeded to tell them what a great job they did, but from now on, let mommy put the lipstick on. Baby wipes are a necessity!

One interesting thing I have found is that children have their own ideas about growing up. My 4 year old explained to my 3 year old that when they get older they will be able to pee standing up like their brother. I had to laugh at this, and then of course explain again that boys and girls have different parts and only boys can stand-up to pee!

The imagination of children is never-ending. I encourage the imagination, after all, it quickly leaves us as we get older. We give up some of the magic and settle for reality. When you look through the eyes of your children you find that anything is possible, and reality is simply what you make of it. If we could bottle the magic of a child, imagine the possibilities.

How do you feel about...

The "recession" of 2008-2009? Everyone has said that we are in a recession. The economy is falling apart, the housing crisis, homeless, increased unemployment, the list goes on and on. I have been listening to talk radio regarding these issues; I have seen the Today show broadcast of "Shanty Town USA" as well as watched numerous YouTube slides.

The following Youtube piece is regarding the Shanty Town in Ontario, CA. While the person making this video has some good points, there are things he says that I personally have issue with, as well as others on his comment section.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVDCOzupz5k

I can appreciate the struggles of those who have lost their homes, have lost their dignity, their lives. We are in a crisis and a depression of sorts, I can completely agree with that. However, I find myself annoyed with being told over and over that "I" need to give more, help more, "share" everything from healthcare costs to the money I bring home from a job.

I do give to charities from the Open Door Mission to the salvation army, March of Dimes, Foodbanks and more. However, we are all feeling the depth to which the recession has touched our country. I hear over and over how the Wealthy should share their Wealth with those in need. I couldn't agree more, however there are stipulations to my agreement. I do not believe that someone who starts a business, works hard at their job, perhaps invests in the stocks and gains...there are many ways that people build their wealth, and now they are expected to SHARE that with those that perhaps don't work, or don't try to work; Share with those who didn't take that stock tip; those who didn't come up with that great start-up business. This seems highly unfair. Why should I pay for someone else? Why should I be responsible for someone elses healthcare expenses, someone elses housing payment, someone elses transportation? I have my own family to support and take care of, but now I am to do MORE, pay MORE, give MORE.

I do believe in helping and giving, but even the economic turn has punctured a hole in my world. Yes, I have my home and we are able to make the bills, perhaps much much tighter than before, but we are struggling just the same. I do not have more to share to pay for someone elses healthcare. I am already builing my own healthcare expenses due to a previous car accident. However, this is my burden and I do not expect someone else to pick up the tab.

I am torn. I believe in charity and giving back, but I can only do what I can do. I do not want to live in a socialist society. I do not want to work hard and save and earn and then give a portion to mandated government programs to "redistribute the wealth". America is the land of the opportunity. When the founders of our Country envisioned their America, it was for everyone to have the opportunity to have an education, have an opportunity to find a job, have the opportunity to make more money and build houses, drive expensive cars. We ALL have the opportunity, but sometimes we make choices that land us UP or land us DOWN from where we started. Government aid is there to help, yes it is a flawed system, and yes it most definitely should be reformed. However, in no way should what someone earns for themselves, legally and legitimately, be given to those who did not. Do I wish I was one of those stellar earners and wealthy, of course! But as is, I work part-time, my husband works full-time, we make ends meet with a bit extra to spare...I personally don't think I should have to take that extra and give it to someone else.

Now, everyone says we are in a recession, hard economic times! Get Ready!! Yet, as I drive through town, everywhere I look there are fast food chains and people driving through for lunches and dinner. Coffee shops are still doing well, we all like our starbucks! I have given up some perks--I do not purchase a coffee everynight before work; I do not hit the McDonalds weekly for kid lunches or dinners; my hubby and I have stopped doing monthly date nights and use other times to be alone with one another, such as a movie at home after the kids go to sleep. We all have ways of being frugal during this economic slowdown, as well as ways to tighten up and buckle down with our spending. Guess we will see if this "NEW" bill will actually stimulate the economy or will consumers tighten up even more?

My feelings on shanty-town, charity, and weath redistribution is this: Put yourself in someone else's shoes, face their life, what would you do? that goes for the wealthy to the impoverished.

I found this on the web, regarding the Great Depression:

http://www.socialstudieshelp.com/Lesson_84_Notes.htm

The following song was the most popular of the time and was emblematic of the attitude many had during the depression.

BUDDY CAN YOU SPARE A DIME

They used to tell me I was building a dream
And so I followed the mob.
When there was earth to plow or guns to bear
I was always there - right there on the job
They used to tell me I was building a dream
with peace and glory I had
Why should I be standing in line
Just waiting for bread.

Once I built a railroad - made it run
Made it race against time
Once I built a railroad - not wit's done
BUDDY CAN YOU SPARE A DIME

Once I built a tower to the sun
Brick and rivet and wine
Once I built a tower - now it's done
BUDDY CAN YOU SPARE A DIME.

Once in khaki suits
Gee we looked swell - full of that Yankee Doodledy-Dum
Half a million boots, went slogging through hell
I was the kid with the drum.

Say don't you remember, you called me Al
It was Al all the time
Say don't you remember, I'm your pal
BUDDY CAN YOU SPARE A DIME.

What are we teaching them?

I have read the recent parenting columns in the newspaper continually telling us how to parent our children, how to ensure that we give them timeouts, rewards, and of course choices. Choices! For children, not just teenagers but for elementary students.

When we were growing up our parents didn't give us a choice, it was simply you do it or you get spanked. Children knew the line, they knew the expectations, they new consequences. Now we have elementary students with cell phones, televisions and laptops. Ipods and texting have invaded our schools from gradeschool to high school. With all this technology its no surprise that children feel entiteled to do and say and have whatever it is they desire. My oldest child just said that he "needed" a ninetendo DS and that I had plastic I could use to purchase it for him. As I attempted to explain to him how I don't have money to be buying things that he really doesn't need, I began to question what we are teaching our children today.

Here we just approved this stimulus package to bail everyone out of something it seems. Yet, truly we are bailing out americans who not only purchased homes that perhaps were already out of their reach, but also americans who took a second mortgage out to put in a pool in their backyard. So, basically when I am trying to teach my children the value of a dollar and my goverment is bailingout those who over extended themselves.

I can appreciate helping those who were basically sucked into the housing frenzy, banks passing out cash to everyone regardless, it seems, whether they were actually able to afford the home. However, the people who put pools in their backyards, why are they being bailed out while I am paying my mortgage on time, my equity line, my bills. No one is knocking on my door and handing me a check!

When my children ask me why they can't have a tv in their room, or a cell phone at age 8, I have no problems telling them because those things are not a necessity, they are a luxury and truly not necessary for children. Children should be playing outside when its nice, coloring, drawing, playing board games, tag, sports, or riding a bike. Technology is a wonderful addition to our world, but perhaps parents started to rely on it a little too much in recent years.

It is our job as parents to teach our children that they have to earn respect and earn a living. That parents sometimes have to resort to more than just a timeout, a swat on the butt is not abuse, but a parenting technique most of us were raised with and we seem to have turned out alright. There is nothing wrong with setting duties for your children, or requiring your teenager to have a job in order to EARN their first car.

Thats my rant for today.....

Why do we Pay convicts??

I was reading in the newspaper that it costs us about $97 per inmate for the upkeep of the facility, utilities, TV, etc. I am thinking to myself we spend so much money to keep people who have committed serious crimes comfortable--I realize that we are bound to treat them with respect, clothe and feed them, bed, running water. But we are paying for their TV, computers, weight rooms, etc.

Next I read how some inmates are taking part in a speech class. These inmates pay their dues (as we PAY them a small amount for working in different areas). The article goes on to say many involved are life imprisoned. That these inmates committed murder, accessory to murder,or other crimes that put them there for 10 years to life.

Our tax dollars are footing the bill for comforts that our homeless do not have. Seems our society is a bit off kilter. We are clothing, employing, feeding, and entertaining the imprisoned, when we have a huge unemployment rate and homeless persons. This does not make sense to me! We are PAYING convicts, even a small wage so that they can purchase things from the prison STORE! When we don't have enough jobs for those who have NOT committed crimes.

I realize that we are going to provide for those imprisoned, but why do we give them email accounts and televisions. They LOST their priviledge to these things when they committed a crime to put them there for life.

Would you give to a charity that gave to inmates OR would you give to a charity that helped impoverished families, and the homeless? I know where my dollars would go to, and yet I have NO control over the price per inmate. Where is my tax deduction for contributing to the health and welfare of inmates?

BlogsVertise!!!

Blogsvertise--Yes, you read it right! Blogsvertise is a wonderful way for companies to advertise their internet products and services and for bloggers to earn some extra money by discussing these internet products and services. The process is simple--bloggers discuss advertisers on their blog, then bloggers are paid through paypal for just writing about/mentioning/discussing the advertisers website.

Submit your blog to blogsvertise for verification and approval. Once approved, you are contacted via email with the company/product to be mentioned/discussed on your blog. Then you are paid via paypal.

Two things you need--a blog, which you can set-up either through Blogger.com or another free blog site. Next you need a paypal account, again this is a free service, just go to http://www.paypal.com and register for free. Start blogging, sumbit your blog to http://www.blogsvertise.com and begin blogging for extra income.

Visit http://www.blogsvertise.com today for complete rules and start earning for blogging

Family-To Choose or Not to Choose

So, for a while now this has been something that I have pondered, "Do we choose our family or is it Chosen for us?"

According to Dictionary.com a Family is:

1. A fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children.
2. Two or more people who share goals and values, have long-term commitments to one another, and reside usually in the same dwelling place.
3. All the members of a household under one roof.
4. A group of persons sharing common ancestry.

This I find interesting as for the longest time I would have associated the word "family" with the first definition. As we grow and mature our definitions change and I would say that this definition is lacking.

This all came about as yesterday I got together with some of my dad's side of the "family" aunt, uncles, etc. congregating to celebrate my grandmothers 80th birthday. In all honesty to say my relationship with this side is somewhat estranged would be an understatement, but through time things have certainly changed for the better. Although admittedly I am not willing to jump in with both feet but am willing to take part in some functions and introduce my children to this side of my "family".

I began questioning this when two things happened. First my cousin, someone I had spent nearly all my summers with as well as every other weekend with for 10 years, commented that "who is Isabelle?" Happens to be my youngest child and named after my grandmother Isabelle (whom we were celebrating her b-day). I said yes mine, yes named after grandma, etc. She proceeded to make a face as she usually does (not the most pleasant person). When I asked my cousin to participate in some photos she refused, and then when I asked for a picture with her, she stated, and I quote, "You don't even know me why would you want a picture with me?" I simply told her that for history sake (she's a real gem).

So based on my cousins behaviour, it got to me to wondering, do we choose our families?

I realize that in the grand scope of things we certainly do not choose the family we are born into. We don't decide the mother and father we are going to have or the siblings or the cousins, etc. This is simple blood and genetics, thats it. Now the relationships we form with these people are certainly something that we can choose to cultivate.

My brother chose NOT to attend this "family" event for my grandmother stating that he doesn't know them and they don't know him so why? To me this sounds exactly like my cousin, like they are reading from the same page.

I believe we choose our families. We may not have those choices as children but as we grow we tend to choose the people we share our time and lives with, and we decide who we would include in the word "family". I have been utterly blessed with many girlfriends that I consider to be family. We may not be blood related or marriage related, but we ARE family. When one of us is sad we can call and they will be there; when we experience a loss, they are there for us; when we experience a blessing whether a birth, new house, new puppy, or just BECAUSE--they are there. My husband is the same way with an extended family, not made of blood or marriage, but through years of friendship, the ups and the downs, and truly that is what a family is.

Even as we experienced a loss during christmas that same cousin as well as my brother behaved in the same manner--consistently upset or irritated with someone in the family (for my cousin its my father and for some reason me as well, perhaps association). For my brother its the continued--why make the effort reasoning. They would be the "not what a family is" section of the dictionary. I feel pity for them as they seem to spend more time seeing the past than the future.

I see things differently. I believe that we are born into a family, and if possible leave the door open even for those who have lost their way. Family is more than just an ansectral line, or the members of a household. Family is something made, something cultivated through experiences, through time, through sharing. And how wonderful it is that we can choose our family. We pick those who we allow in, we choose those we would share our most important moments, and truly it is a gift. Some may actually be blood relatives, and others may be people we have known for many many years.

So, the definition of family then, probably should be added to the common dictionary something to the effect of "Family is WHO you make it to be".

Back to my SHOP....

Anyone who knows me would not be surprised by my great realm of chaotic speaking. Jumping from one topic to another, sometimes I believe I simply have to jump around as half the time I miss part of the conversations as I am dealing with "children" issues. Can't complain though as I am so incredibly blest. Which is another topic all together.

I just wanted to drop a line regarding PVIcreations. I am working tirelessly on some new ideas and a few blankets. Most recently my next crochet quilt. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/SahnR3pVzhI/AAAAAAAAAG4/-h4WzYnLb5s/s200/2-23-2009+096.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307605717548912146" /> Its mixed with Oranges and Browns, and of course a multi-colored squares too.

Haven't decided what to name this little rustic afghan. I'm sure I'll come up with something. As of right now I am putting things together and deciding how I want it to come out.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/Sahn1Bw9fkI/AAAAAAAAAHA/C0pKt-vwviU/s200/2-23-2009+097.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307606321560649282" />

I've also decided its time to clean out my "stash" of things. I have soo many things that I have made, but I haven't sold it and it would be nice to have it go to good homes. Yes I make it sound like I'm selling a puppy, but you put so much time and work into something, you hope that others will take care of it.

What are you doing to save $$$?

It is evident for many of us just how dire the economy has become. Loss of jobs and homes, increasing cost of food and goods, and less extra money all weighing heavy on everyone it seems. Normally I really don't think about the economy, however, I have found myself worrying about things like finances and how to get from one month to the next.

Clipping coupons has become a necessity. Anytime you can save a few cents here or there becomes a game. I actually like seeing the money coming off the total at the check-stand. Of course I also love to vacuum, so you can see how I might be a bit on the weird end. But seriously, living frugally is hard to do, especially in this day and age where credit is used more than it should be.

So, here are few ways that I am saving a little here and there, and even earning a little here and there.

First, GPT sites. These sites are not for earning tons of money, but if you stick to the 100% free offers, you can earn money. It can take a while, but if you are on the computer anyway, why not earn a few dollars each time, right!

My GPT sites (of course providing a link as a referral)

Treasure Trooper http://www.treasuretrooper.com/254833

****This site is a little fun site providing you with quarter surveys, etc. I have made nearly $200 by just doing piddly free offers. Just be sure to click the final offers page at the end (usually the silver is one offer, Gold is 2 offers, and platinum is 4 offers) you click them open for a few seconds and move on, you do NOT need to purchase anything.

CashCrate: http://cashcrate.com/500301

***This one is a new of for me, but I am earning, I have been lax in this site but now almost to the minimum payout, which is $20.00 Again with strictly FREE offers and surveys.

Inboxdollars: This on I have no link for. I have been just reading their emails (hint: sent up your inbox to put your inboxdollars emails in a separate folder). This beginning minimum payment is $30, i am nearly to that just by clicking emails.

Sendearnings: This is the same as inboxdollars. Treat it the same way and click emails to earn money.

Now, these are the ones that I am using right now. Like I said, its slow, but if your messing around on the computer anyway, why not take a few minutes each day and earn for your trouble!

Now, heres another site I absolutely LOVE!!

Mypoints: You must sign up for this site! This past year I earned enough points to purchase gift cards for family members christmas gifts! All you do is sign up for the service. Its FREE! You earn for reading emails (5pts per email); Earn for completing surveys, signing up for websites you find interesting, websearching, playing games, etc. You can redeem your points for gas cards, target cards, walmart, and more--70 different choices.

Other things to do to save $$$:

Clip your coupons: (MyPoints also has a coupon center, you print, clip, redeem and earn points so you save money and earn points). Every little bit counts!!!

Shop Generics: Look for generics to your favorite food items. At Target stores their Generic Brand is usually much cheaper, and the taste is the same. From soups to cereals, you can save money just by shopping the generics.

Gas: Watch the gas prices as you drive by different places. Most of the time they will change the price in the later evening. I work 3 nights a week and am driving past a QuickTrip on the way there (5:30pm) and on the way home (10pm). If the price per gallon is going to change I see the price at 5:30pm and then by 10pm its either cheaper of more.

Lower your thermostat: Just a few degrees cooler and you will see a difference in your monthly statement. You put on socks and a sweater during the and save on your monthly costs.

PAY CASH: Get away from the credit cards! If you can't pay for it in cash, then you don't need it right now! Work on paying down credit and stay on budget. If you were doing without that big screen TV before, then you really don't need it now. Save up! Purchase with cash, a TV will be there a few months down the road.

There are numerous things you can do to shed expenses, earn a little here and there. We just have to change our mindset. Which is hard to do!! I did not watch the whole show but I did catch the some of the commentary. To get the backstory, my husband and I had a "tube" tv in our bedroom that, after 11 years, crapped out. We went to get a new tv and found that the only ones they have are the flat, lcd tvs.

So, here I am watching the guide channel looking for something to watch and they are replaying the commentary. I was appalled! Lisa Rinna, whom I have always just loved, looked AWEFUL. I think she is amazing, however, I wish she hadn't done the facelift/botox/juvederm thing. She couldn't even smile her lips were SOO full, her face was too tight. And on High Def....well....I even tried adjusting the screen, it didn't help.

I really think Hollywood is in for a rude awakening. All you hear is how you have to have botox, etc in order to keep working. The problem is that with these high def TV's and digital broadcasts, the people look horrible when they have had too much done.

Botox might be nice, but overdone, it really just doesn't work!

Great Family Movies

In todays society we have become somewhat desensitized to the violence and "adult" content in our cartoons. Having young children I have found that its hard to guage what movies are actually appropriate. I remember as a child my parents were VERY strict about what I was aloud to watch. Our cartoons consisted of Bugs Bunny and the road runner. Even tweetie bird didn't REALLY get eaten. Today cartoons like those on cartoon network have a great deal of one character or group of characters killing another character. Even our commercials for video games are of those where the main character is blowing up people, blood spattering on the screen. Yes they paraphrase by saying this is for 13 and over, but have already planted the seed with my 7 year old. Granted games when I was a kid, were more like atari and just beginning ninetendo.

So, here are just a few of my favorite childrens shows, well my kids' favorite shows, and ones that even adults can enjoy:

Game Plan: starring the Rock. This is a wonderful show about a football player (Joe Kingman) who meets his daughter and learns that life isn't just about the game but its about family. Lots of fun and laughs, and of course the music is generally Elvis. My children love this film and everytime we watch it we are always laughing, and my youngest wants to watch it everyday if possible.

Hoodwinked: Great film about the unknown story behind "Little Red Ridinghood" Very cute music, and animation. This one is about how the story of Little Red Ridinghood really came about. Granny is a high flying daredevil, Red Ridinghood is a delivery girl, and the Wolf is a reporter. Great movie for the entire family.

Spykids: This one is about kids who find out their parents are really spies. The kids take it upon themselves to rescue the parents from Minion and Floop. Terri Hatcher, Antonio Banderas star in this film. There is some violence but its taylored to silly string thats cement, and things like that. No one is exploding!

Underdog: Excellent film about a mad scientist who accidentally turns a beagle into a super hero. James Belushi is the security gaurd who helps bring the mad scientist down. Very entertaining, even my husband enjoyed this film.

These are just a few movies that we like to watch, and thankfully they are good even repitiously. And parents know just how VERY often we watch the same thing over and over again.

Debt Relief

Okay so in todays economic climate, we are all at risk for debt problems. But here is what I don't understand: what is the logic behind credit card companies increasing minimum requirements, most likely pushing persons further into debt and basically pushing people into using debt relief programs. I do not understand how this is a good idea?

All these commercials go on and on about helping you decrease your debt by up to 70%. What they don't tell you is that first you have to be deliquent. Then they establish an account where you will deposit a set amount that you can handle monthly. Lets say you have minumum payments adding up to $800 a month. So you it would be helpful to only have to pay $500 per month. Basically you will be putting that $500 payment into a trust, once you have half of the money you owe in that account (per card) then they will negotiate with the credit card company to pay half of your owed debt. And this process continues until all yoru cards are paid off.

Great idea right?

The problem is that you can't get this help until you are behind, OR you become behind as you build the trust account because you STOP paying the credit cards. So your credit score goes down, temporarily, but once things are paid off you can re-establish your credit and build it up again.

So logic would say that increasing credit card minumums on already strapped people will just increase the likelihood that they will be unable to make their payments, finance and late charges will apply, and many people will be forced to utilize debt relief programs.

In my humble opinion, credit card companies should DECREASE minimum payments, which would help people make payments on time, be less likely to get behind on payments, maybe even spend more which inturn positively impacts the economy. Maybe Government should have gotten involved in credit card companies instead of the auto and mortgage companies.

FairTax

In light of the recent "economic stimulus" package I have been hearing alot about the fairtax plan. While I am not a huge political follower, this did catch my attention. I included the website location as well as the highlights of the plan. I think it makes sense, I mean when you think about it, all our taxes on goods, our IRS, our income taxes, FICA, etc. Much of this is taxation without representation...seriously, we don't get to decide where our "taxes" are being disbursed. It seems that much of our government start out with great ideas, but to get them passed, so much "pork" must be added in. Give this a read, you may find it interesting.

http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_main

What is the FairTax plan?
The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.

The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 296) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.

The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

The FairTax:

Enables workers to keep their entire paychecks
Enables retirees to keep their entire pensions
Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities
Allows American products to compete fairly
Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
Abolishes the IRS
We offer a library of information throughout this Web site about the features and benefits of the FairTax plan. Please explore!

The FairTax Five

The gloves are off as critics try to pick apart the FairTax. Trouble is, it's just a replay of the same five FairTax myths:

"The 23% rate is misleading. It's actually 30%"
Well, actually...
"It's not enforceable and evasion will be rampant"
Well, actually...
"It will not be revenue neutral at 23%"
Well, actually...
"The FairTax is not politically viable"
Well, actually...
"The FairTax is regressive and shifts the tax burden onto lower and middle income people"
Well, actually...

The Snickerdoodle Invasion..

Well, its another day, another snickerdoodle cookie! At the beginning of the year, yep that wonderful New Years resolution was made, to eat better, be fit, exercise, etc etc etc.....well, I can honestly say that I was doing fairly well, UNTIL...Valentines day hit. My son brought home a snickerdoodle cookie mix that he had made at his Valentine Party (I will "thank" that mother soon for this amazing gift). He was soo excited, so we made the cookies, and I truly have not been a fan of snickerdoodle cookies. Maybe it was the sugar, the cinnamon, the snow on the ground, the moon in the sky....whatever the reason, the snickerdoodle invasion had begun!

It began as a simply warm cookie trial, then continued into an all out invasion, me stopping those cookies by gobbling them up, yes I was protecting my family from those bad bad cookies....

As Bill Cosby pointed out in his stand-up, our baked goods do have the Eggs and Milk, so technically having cookies or cake for breakfast, lunch, and even dinner truly should be considered a a healthy meal???? Unfortunately for me, its more of the just add it onto my thighs, hips and butt type food!

As we got down to the last 2 cookies yesterday evening, I began thinking of reasons my children could not have a cookie. It was close to dinner, they had had enough sugar, wouldn't an orange be better for them....Yes, the last cookies would be MINE!

That dream was shattered as I folded laundry and my son grabbed the last two cookies, and ate them both! It was a sad moment, I heard the trumpets playing taps in my head. But then I realized this was a good thing, this was actually helpful, I would NOT get another cookie, empty calories, sweet sugar and cinnamon.....I settled for an orange instead.

The Snickerdoodles were stopped in their tracks, but now the Cake Mix is calling....

A Beginning

Welcome to PVIcreations blogspot. Please come in and visit! This is a new beginning, allowing me to update and comment about my little shop called PVIcreations. Located at http://www.pvicreations.etsy.com

PVIcreations is my little "creation" of crochet goods from baby clothes to adult sized afghans. I tend to work on my items when I have a brief moment between children. Which truly does not leave all that much time. I have been in somewhat of a lull you might say since the holidays. I created my girls' dresses, and have since been working on a cross-stitch stocking for myself (I have made one for everyone in my family except myself). Yet, I have become unmotivated with the cross-stitch and brimming full of ideas for my crocheting items. I tend to use different items from multiple patterns or create my own ideas and bring them to life. So everything is unique in its own way.

This is my New Born Babygown, Little Boy Blue.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Eah6A7qd7rY/SZrirJD2etI/AAAAAAAAAGg/GW57pkhHkQc/s200/etsy73108+001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303800741976505042" />

Made with 100% cotton, won't irritate baby's sensitive skin.
