DORA LIVE!!!!

I had to include this review of the Dora Live show we attended March 18th, 2009 at the Omaha Orpheum. I took my two daughters, ages 3 and 4, to see the Dora Live production. The show was filled with adventures, animals, characters from the animated show, and a special appearance from Dora's cousin Diego. Prior to the start of the show and during intermission, you could purchase Dora Live toys and accessories as well as have your picture taken. Each child was given a Star to hold during the show and participate when asked.

The actors portaying the characters were energetic as well as having beautiful vocals. Each character did a wonderul job of including the audience in the adventure, even Swiper made an appearance and it took the entire audience to say "Swiper, NO Swiping!"

My girls enjoyed the show immensely. Smiles, smiles, and more smiles as we left the show. My children were disappointed that mommy wouldn't purchase the toys or accessories at the production, however the mark-ups were a bit high for toys you could get at retail stores for a fraction of the cost.

Tickets were reasonable, and we sat higher up so we could all see the production without having to stand up. Our costs with taxes came to just over $100 for the three of us, and worth every penny. Not only are you enjoying a live performance with your children, but it also opens them up to the arts at an early age. Something I believe our society has let dwindle and be replaced by xbox and ninetendo DS.

I intend to continue sharing my love of Opera and Live shows with my children. I hope that the will discover the joys of the arts and keep some of that magic with them as they grow into adulthood.
