Its nearly summer, school is almost out, and the children will all be home....as much as I love having my kids together, we are already beginning the constant bickering and squabbling. Hopefully we can stick to our guns and manage to make a daytrip once a week. We are making up a calendar of events so we can explore different areas in close proximity to home. With the economy the way it is, and the cost of taking a family of 5 on vacation, even a driving trip to Colorado is expensive. So this summer we are making two trips, one to Platte River State park--we have done this the past 2 years and its wonderful! Close to home, beatiful scenery, and best of all its a chance to disconnect from the cell phones, television, and video games. We all spend time together, swimming, fishing, exploring and cooking over an open fire. At the end of the day you are tired and ready to sleep (after a good shower and a book).
Our next trip will be to the Iowa State Fair. A 3 hour drive, but for two days we will be enjoying lots of attractions, family time and staying at the Holiday Inn--kids eat free! With a family of 5, anytime you can save a dime its worth it. I will post some pics in August after this trip. This will be our first time there, so we are looking forward!
Other day trips planned for this summer include the Henry Doorly Zoo; The WWII museum; Schramm Park; General Crooks Museum; Fishing around town and further out; Zorinsky Lake...and coming up with more ideas :)
